Wikipedia Starts Accepting Donations Via BitPay Crypto Payment System in BTC and BCH

Have you ever heard of a site called the Wikipedia? Well, of course, you have. It is the largest digital encyclopedia in the whole world and it uses a lot of collaborative work in order to create the highest qualified information for you to use completely for free.

However, what you may have not heard about is that the Wikipedia Foundation, the nonprofit that runs Wikipedia, is in need of money. Ok, you might have heard that as well since they put up banners all the time on the site, but the main point here is that there is no Wikipedia unless you donate money. The Wikipedia is free, after all, so there is no harm in donating for such a good cause.

As the Wikipedia is actually a fairly decentralized platform which uses the help of many donors, crypto enthusiasts are the kind of people who would like to help, right? This is what BitPay is thinking now because the company has decided to accept Bitcoin Core (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) transactions in order to make donations to the largest digital encyclopedia of the world.

In order to make payments easier and more seamless for crypto users, the Wikipedia Foundation and BitPay have teamed up and now you can donate as much money as you want using the two most popular Bitcoin tokens.

Why Donate?

Well, you do use the Wikipedia, don’t you? So let’s not be cheap. The site does not even use ads, which some users find annoying, but it is a way to make money. People working there are not doing it for the profit and a huge amount of knowledge would simply be lost if the Wikipedia vanished.

Donating to Wikipedia can cost even less than a single cup of coffee in some countries, so not donating is your right, but you simply can’t complain if the site stops to exist one day.

How To Donate?

The Wikipedia Foundation only accepted fiat currency until some years ago, however, it has been accepting cryptos (Bitcoin) as well since a few years ago. However, you could only send the money directly until now. Now, however, you can just use your BitPay to help one of the coolest foundations in the world.

By using BitPay, people will be able to use Bitcoin Cash to donate as well, which makes things even easier for the crypto folk who want to help.

According to reports, one of the top executives at the Wikipedia Foundation has affirmed that the company is very keen on receiving money in cryptos, despite the bear market, mostly because they make it really useful for people to donate. Accepting Bitcoin Cash is an important new step in this direction.

Both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have relatively low fees, so they can be considered good options for the company to accept the money. Some countries also let people get taxation benefits when they donate using Bitcoin, so you can even get some personal benefits as well.
